We are located between the main London to Edinburgh A1 trunk road and the A697, in a beautiful riverside setting, quiet and secluded, yet within easy reach of the wonderful variety of attractions which Northumberland has to offer the visitor.

  • Rothbury:  Market town nestling in the Cheviots, perfect for walks and wildlife, with nearby Cragside House.
  • Morpeth:  Administrative capital of Northumberland with park and riverside. Shopping, pubs, restaurants.
  • Hexham:  Centre for Hadrian's Wall - famous medieval abbey. Bustling market town.

Tourist Attractions

  • Wallington Hall:  Dating from 1688, Wallington was home to many generations of the Blackett and Trevelyan families
  • The Alnwick Garden:  Inspired idea by Her Grace, the Duchess of Northumberland. Now maturing into a fascinating day out for all the family.
  • Lindisfarne (Holy Island):  With its connection to early saints, this tidal island is the seat of early northern Christianity. Check tide times for a safe visit.
  • The Farne Islands:  With their famous seal colony and fabulously rich variety of seabirds, the Farnes are well served with boat trips from Seahouses.
  • Hadrian's Wall (The Roman Wall):  More a political statement then real means of defence, the famous wall extends almost coast-to-coast, but its most spectacular remains are along the northern hills of the Tyne valley.
  • Kielder Water Park & Forest Trail:  Kielder Water is the largest man-made lake in Europe, in the heart of the largest man-made forest inn Europe.
  • Northumberland National Park:  A large portion of Northumberland lies within the National Park. Too much to mention is on offer. Visit their website.
  • The Theatre Royal, Newcastle:  The region's premier theatre, featuring a mixed programme of high quality productions
  • Cragside House:  Cragside House, Gardens and Woodland is a truly unique visitor attraction in the heart of Northumberland, and was the first house in the world to be lit using hydroelectric power.

  • Vindolanda - Bardon Mill:  Exceptionally well preserved Roman fort and settlement with visitor centre & museum
  • Chesters Roman Fort - Chollerford:  Visit Chesters Roman Fort and discover the best visible remains of a cavalry fort in Britain.
  • Housteads Roman Fort - Haltwhistle:  The most complete Roman fort in Britain, Housteads boasts spectacular views.
  • Arbeia - South Shields:  Arbeia Roman Fort housed a garrison and once guarded the entrance to the River Tyne.
  • Segedunum - Wallsend:  Roman settlement guarding the eastern end of Hadrian's Wall

  • St Oswald's Way:  A long-distance walking route, exploring some of the finest landscapes and fascinating history of Northumberland.
